ZOLADEX (Goserelin Acetate) is used in men to treat symptoms of prostate cancer.  ZOLADEX  is used in women to treat breast cancer or endometriosis. ZOLADEX is also used in women to prepare the lining of the uterus for endometrial ablation (a surgery to correct abnormal uterine bleeding).

Warnings and Precautions

Serious Warnings and Precautions

ZOLADEX should be prescribed and managed by a doctor experienced with using this type of drug.

ZOLADEX should be administered by a healthcare professional experienced in administering deep subcutaneous injections and under the supervision of a physician.

ZOLADEX may cause:

  • Worsening of symptoms of prostate cancer at the beginning of the treatment (risk of spinal cord compression, or increased difficulty in urinating)

  • Bone thinning (osteoporosis)

  • Injection site injury (including damage to blood vessels in the abdomen) has been reported following injection of ZOLADEX. In rare cases this has caused severe bleeding (with some cases requiring surgical treatment).

If you go into hospital, let the medical staff know you are receiving ZOLADEX.

In women, there are no clinical data on the effect of treating endometriosis with ZOLADEX for periods in excess of 6 months.

ZOLADEX is not recommended for use in children.

ZOLADEX is not recommended for use in very thin patients and/or those on blood thinners.

ZOLADEX is unlikely to affect your ability to drive a car or to operate machinery.

Before you use ZOLADEX, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following applies to you:

  • Have or have had any problems passing urine.

  • Family history of severe osteoporosis (thinning of the bones with fractures).

  • Have low bone mineral density (BMD).

  • Taking other medicines that cause thinning of the bones.

  • Have a low red blood cell count (anemia).

  • Have heart or blood vessel disease, have had an abnormal heart rhythm (QT prolongation), have a heart condition called ‘long QT syndrome’, a family history of this heart condition, or are being treated with medicines for these conditions. ZOLADEX may increase the risk of having an abnormal heart rhythm (QT prolongation).

  • Have diabetes.

  • Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. ZOLADEX should not be used during pregnancy, therefore, effective non-hormonal contraceptive methods should be used to prevent pregnancy during the treatment and until the return of menses after the last injection with ZOLADEX. After stopping ZOLADEX it may take longer for some women to experience menses. Rarely, some women may enter menopause. If 8 weeks have passed after the last ZOLADEX injection and you do not experience menses, talk to your doctor.

  • Taking blood thinners.

Side Effects

As with all medicines, side effects are sometimes experienced with ZOLADEX.

Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these problems:

  • Tingling in your fingers or toes.

  • Psychiatric problems such as hallucinations, disordered thoughts or personality change. These have occasionally been reported.

  • Injection site injury (including damage to blood vessels in the abdomen) has been reported following injection of ZOLADEX. This can cause severe bleeding. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms: bleeding underneath the skin or bruising, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, swelling at the injection site, shortness of breath, dizziness, low blood pressure and/or any altered levels of consciousness.

  • There have been occasional reports of side effects with pituitary tumours. You may develop a tumour of the pituitary gland in your head or, if you have an existing tumour of the pituitary gland, ZOLADEX may cause it to bleed or collapse. Pituitary tumours may cause headaches, vomiting, loss of eyesight and unconsciousness.

  • A local skin reaction may occur at the injection site such as pain, bruising, bleeding, itching, redness, burning and swelling. These reactions generally are mild and disappear after a few days. If they get worse or do not go away, tell your doctor.

  • Cancer patients: Contact your doctor immediately if you develop: severe increased pain, numbness or weakness of the limbs, or persistent difficulty in urinating (prostate cancer).

Use of ZOLADEX in Men:

  • When you first start receiving ZOLADEX you may feel some pain in your bones. If this happens tell your doctor and you may be given something for this.

  • Very occasionally you may have trouble passing urine or experience lower back pain. If this happens, tell your doctor and you may be given something for this.

  • You may experience hair loss, particularly the loss of body hair.

Use of ZOLADEX in Women:

  • For pre-menopausal women: menstruation stops with the monthly depot of ZOLADEX. If regular menstruation persists, notify your doctor. If a monthly ZOLADEX depot is missed, breakthrough menstrual bleeding may occur.

  • Vaginal bleeding may occur. At the beginning of treatment, if you have fibroids a slight increase in symptoms, such as pain, may occur. These effects are usually short-lived and discontinue on continuation of treatment. If symptoms persist or you are uncomfortable, contact your doctor.

  • Occasionally some women may enter menopause early, so when ZOLADEX treatment is stopped, menstruation will not start again.

  • ZOLADEX has been associated with the formation of ovarian cysts, which may cause pain for some women.

  • If you experience excessive nausea, vomiting or thirst, you should tell your doctor. This may indicate possible changes in the amount of calcium in your blood and your doctor may have to do certain blood tests.

  • Often, acne is reported within one month after starting ZOLADEX.

Interactions with this medication

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other drugs, including non-prescription drugs (for colds, nausea, etc.). ZOLADEXmight interfere with some medicines used to treat heart rhythm problems or might increase the risk of heart rhythm problems when used with some other drugs that can cause heart rhythm abnormalities.

Proper Use of this medication

Usual dose:

  • ZOLADEX is given as an injection under the skin of the abdomen by a trained health care professional, such as a doctor or nurse.

  • Prostate or breast cancer: one injection every 28 days.

  • Endometriosis: one injection every 28 days.

  • It is very important your doctor checks your progress at regular medical visits. Consult your doctor before you decide to change your treatment.

  • If you need more information, ask your doctor.

Overdose:

In case of drug overdose, contact a health care practitioner, hospital emergency department or regional Poison Control Centre immediately, even if there are no symptoms.

Missed dose:

If you missed your scheduled dose, contact your doctor for advice.

What is Pataday used for?

Pataday is an antihistamine. Also called olopatadine, Pataday’s role is to minimize the naturally-made histamine in the body. Histamine is associated with allergic symptoms like watery eyes and itching. So, when you take an antihistamine medicine like Pataday, all these symptoms can go away. Pataday is used to treat the eye and is able to cure burning, itching, and excess watering among other symptoms caused by allergies. Unless you are allergic to Pataday, it should work for you.

How to use Pataday eye drops?

If your doctor has prescribed Pataday for your eyes, then it will be necessary to follow their instructions closely. Hence, never try to take a smaller or bigger dose than advised. Additionally, never take this medicine for a longer period than needed. Prior to using your eye drops, wash and dry your hands properly. Then, slightly slant your head back and pull down your lower eyelid until you notice a tiny sac.

Holding the dropper above your eye so that the tip is facing down, look away and squeeze out one drop only. Close that eye for two to three minutes and tilt your head down. Don’t blink your eye at all; softly press your finger to the inner corner of your eye for a minute. This is to stop the liquid from getting inside your tear duct. Wait until ten minutes are over to put any other eye drops product your doctor has recommended.

It is important to keep your dropper from contamination as it could infect your eyes. If you notice that the color of the eye drops has changed, avoid using them. Instead, call your pharmacist or doctor for a new product. If you forget a dose, take it as fast as you can recall. Otherwise, do not take the dose if the next one you have scheduled is near.

What are the side effects of using Pataday?

Pataday can cause serious and mild side effects. The former are rare and if they occur, you should stop using Pataday and call your eye physician. As for the mild ones, they are rather common and include the following:

  • Dryness in the eye
  • Hazy vision
  • Mild irritation in the eye
  • Swollen eyelids
  • Bad taste in your mouth
  • Feeling as if you have an object in your eye.

If any of the common side effects worsen, let your eye doctor learn about it.

What are the precautions of using Pataday eye drops?

Prior to taking Pataday, ensure that you take some precautions first. Doing this will ensure your safety. So, do the following:

  • Avoid Pataday if you have an allergy to its potent ingredient.
  • Inform your doctor about any eye infection you currently have.
  • As it is not clear whether Pataday could harm a fetus, tell your doctor if you are expectant or planning to get pregnant.
  • Tell your physician if you are lactating as it is not clear whether Pataday can be absorbed into the breast milk and harm your child.
  • This medicine should never be shared without prior medical advice.

What is Entocort used for?

Entocort is a medicine for treating Crohn’s disease. Once taken, Entocort reduces the inflammation in the intestine. Budesonide is a corticosteroid capsule that is easy to take and is one of the most effective ways to treat Crohn’s disease.

As a form of a corticosteroid, Entocort is what many patients who suffer from Crohn’s disease use to control their temporary bouts. It is safer to take than typical steroids that trigger serious side effects.

Once taken, Entocort is released into the intestines where it is absorbed into the body. Then the liver converts it into a compound that is free from steroid-like side effects. Hence, the drug starts working when it reaches your intestines rather when it has circulated in your entire system.

How is Entocort dosage best taken?

This medicine, including most Entocort generic versions, is a capsule that is taken orally once per day. It is best taken in the morning with or without food. It is upon you to decide if you want to eat first.

Don’t alter the capsule in any way, including chewing, opening or crushing it. Instead, swallow it as is and it will work just fine. One thing you should totally avoid is grapefruit or grapefruit juice to avoid drug interactions.

If you take this medicine as instructed by your doctor, it will do the work it was made for. This includes taking it for the duration your healthcare professional chose in the correct doses and at a similar time every day. If you forget to swallow a capsule, do it the soonest you can remember. However, skip the dose if you are about to take your next scheduled dose. Your doctor might alter the dose at will and you should follow the new instructions well.

What are the common side effects?

Just like other corticosteroids, Entocort has some side effects.  Even so, some people take it and experience no side effects.  Others endure very mild side effects that they tolerate just fine. Just to keep you aware these, here is what to expect:

  • Flu, common cold, pneumonia and other respiratory system infections
  • Nausea
  • Headache

What are the precautions of taking Budesonide?

If you are looking to take Entocort soon, it is important to take certain precautions. So, tell your healthcare professional whether you have:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Glaucoma
  • Herpes
  • Liver failure, hepatitis or liver cirrhosis
  • Allergies to anything
  • Tuberculosis
  • Ever been sick with measles or chickenpox. Also ask for vaccinations if you have never had them.
  • Pregnancy right now or are planning to get pregnant if breastfeeding, let your physician know.
  • Other medicines, supplements or herbal concoctions you are taking because of a different disease or disorder.

Combivent Respimat is a prescription inhaler with a combination of two different drugs. It contains albuterol and ipratropium bromide. Your doctor may prescribe this inhaler to treat asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Asthma and COPD are called obstructive airway diseases. People with the conditions have a harder time breathing and may have other symptoms like coughing, wheezing, or chest pain.

Albuterol and ipratropium relax the smooth muscles of the lungs, making it easier to breathe. They work via two different mechanisms, so their combination is more effective than being used by themselves.

Dosage

Each Combivent Respimat inhalation contains:

  • Albuterol 100 mcg
  • Ipratropium 20 mcg

Each inhaler contains 120 inhalations.

Inhale Combivent Respimat four times per day as needed. Each inhaler should last no longer than 30 days.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Combivent Respimat include:

  • Bronchitis
  • Cough
  • Dyspnea
  • Headache
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Upper respiratory infection

Precautions

Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, urinary obstruction, a seizure disorder, low thyroid, narrow-angle glaucoma, or diabetes mellitus.

Stop taking Combivent Respimat immediately if it worsens symptoms of asthma during use.

Avoid spraying into the eyes.

Interactions

Drug interactions are uncommon with inhaled medications but can happen in certain circumstances. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following:

  • Anticholinergics
  • Beta-adrenergic agents
  • Beta-blockers
  • Cocaine
  • Diuretics
  • Glycopyrrolate

Storage

Discard the inhaler three months after removing it from the package. Store close to 25° C (77° F), no less or greater than 15° to 30° C (59° to 86° F).

Discard the inhaler after 120 uses when the counter reaches zero.

Do not freeze.

Pharmacist Tips

  • If you haven’t used the inhaler in a few days or are using it for the first time, “prime” it by spraying one puff towards the ground.
  • Clean the mouthpiece, including inside, once weekly with a damp cloth.
  • Do not remove the clear base after inserting the inhaler cartridge.

Combivent Respimat FAQs

How do I know when my inhaler is out of inhalations?

There is a counter on the side that shows how many inhalations are left out of 120. When the pointer reaches the red area of the scale, there are seven days of medication left.

How do I activate the inhaler?

Hold the inhaler upright with the orange cap closed. With your other hand, twist the clear bottom of the inhaler in a clockwise direction (in the direction of the arrows) for half a turn. Open the orange cap, empty your lungs, and close your lips around the device.

How do I take a breath once the inhaler is ready?

Point the inhaler to the back of your throat. Start a slow breath, press the button, and continue to breathe in slowly for as long as you can. Hold your breathe for 10 seconds or as long as you can.

Zyban (Bupropion) Dosage and Side Effects

ZYBAN is an oral prescription medication which is used in combination with a support program such as counseling to help motivated adults quit smoking. ZYBAN can be used in combination with nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum, lozenges, etc.).

Warnings and Precautions

IMPORTANT WARNINGS ABOUT THE RISK OF SEIZURES FOR PATIENTS TAKING ZYBAN:

There is a risk of having a seizure with ZYBAN: At the maximum recommended dose of 300 mg per day, ZYBAN has been shown to cause seizures in about 1 out of every 1000 people.

For this reason, ZYBAN is not right for everyone.

If the decision is to try ZYBAN, there are precautions to be aware of to help reduce the chances of a seizure.

Do NOT take other drugs with the same medicinal ingredient (bupropion) that is in ZYBAN, such as WELLBUTRIN SR or WELLBUTRIN XL tablets (used to treat depression).

Never take more than one tablet (150 mg) of ZYBAN at one time, and never take more than two tablets total (300 mg) in a day.

BEFORE you use ZYBAN tell your doctor or pharmacist if you:

  • have ever had any seizures in the past

  • take other medications that may increase your chance of a seizure, including drugs for depression and some antibiotics

  • are taking, or planning on taking, any prescription or over-the-counter medications, or diet aids during your therapy

  • have had a serious head injury

  • have kidney or liver problems

  • have had a heart attack, heart problems, or high blood pressure

  • are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, or if you think that you might be pregnant

  • are breast feeding

  • have diabetes which is treated with insulin or other medications

  • regularly drink a lot of alcohol. If you are a heavy drinker and suddenly stop drinking while taking ZYBAN, you increase the chances of having a seizure.

If You Experience a Seizure:

If you experience a seizure while taking ZYBAN, contact your doctor or go to a hospital emergency ward immediately. Stop taking ZYBAN, and do not start the medication at any later time, as you may suffer more seizures. In addition, you should not take any other medications that contain bupropion, such as the antidepressants WELLBUTRIN XL and WELLBUTRIN SR, due to the risk of more seizures.

Angle-Closure Glaucoma:

ZYBAN can cause an acute attack of glaucoma. Having your eyes examined before you take ZYBAN could help identify if you are at risk of having angle-closure glaucoma. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

  • eye pain

  • changes in vision

  • swelling or redness in or around the eye.

New or Worsened Emotional or Behavioural Problems:

Particularly in the first weeks, or when doses are adjusted, a small number of people taking drugs of this type may experience unusual feelings of agitation, hostility or anxiety, or have impulsive or disturbing thoughts such as thoughts of self-harm, or harm to others. Your doctor should be informed of such changes immediately. Close observation by a doctor is necessary in this situation.

These symptoms can develop during treatment with ZYBAN or after stopping treatment. They can also be associated with trying to quit smoking, with or without medications to help quit.

If you, your family, or friends notice mental health changes that are unusual for you while in ZYBAN, stop taking the drug and talk to your doctor. If the symptoms are severe, seek immediate emergency help.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Because of the possibility of harm to the baby, ZYBAN should only be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding if you and your doctor decide that the potential benefits outweigh the potential harms.

Taking ZYBAN during the first trimester is associated with a risk of heart defect in the baby. As well, some newborns whose mother took drugs of the same type as bupropion during the third trimester of pregnancy have developed complications at birth including: feeding and/or breathing difficulties, seizures, tense or floppy muscles, jitteriness, constant crying.

If you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, or are breastfeeding, talk with your doctor about the risks and benefits of different anti-smoking treatment options.

Driving or Using Heavy Machinery:

Do not drive a car or use heavy machinery until you know how ZYBAN affects you. ZYBAN can affect your ability to do these things safely.

ZYBAN is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age.

Side Effects

Whether you are taking medication to stop smoking or not, the following are symptoms you may feel: depressed, short-tempered, frustrated or angry, nervous, impatient; have difficulty concentrating. Your appetite may increase, and you may gain some weight.

Like all medications, ZYBAN can cause some side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The common side effects are mostly mild to moderate and these usually occur in the first weeks of treatment.

Common side effects of ZYBAN can include:

  • difficulty sleeping

  • dry mouth

  • stuffy or runny nose

  • dizziness

  • nausea

  • constipation

  • disturbed concentration

  • feeling anxious

  • joint aches

If you think you have these side effects, it is important that you seek medical advice from your doctor straight away.

Interactions with this medication

You should tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any medications (prescription, non-prescription or natural herbal) especially:

  • medicines for Parkinson’s disease such as levodopa, amantadine or orphenadrine

  • medicines used for epilepsy (such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, or phenobarbitone)

  • the antipsychotic thioridazine

  • other medications for mental illness such as haloperidol and risperidone

  • antidepressants such as citalopram, paroxetine, venlafaxine

  • cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide, drugs mainly used to treat cancer

  • drugs called beta blockers to treat heart conditions

  • medicines to regulate heart rhythm

  • clopidogrel or ticlopidine, drugs used to reduce blood clots

  • tamoxifen, a drug to treat breast cancer

  • ritonavir or efavirenz, drugs to treat HIV infection

  • sedatives or tranquilizers

  • digoxin used to treat congestive heart failure and a fast heart rate or irregular heart rhythm such as atrial fibrillation sometimes called “a-fib”.

In general, drinking alcoholic beverages should be kept to a minimum or avoided completely while taking ZYBAN. Alcohol may trigger or worsen the allergic reactions. Be sure to discuss your use of alcohol with your doctor before you begin taking ZYBAN.

Proper Use of this medication

Never take an "extra" dose of ZYBAN.

Never take more than one tablet at a time, or more than 2 tablets in one day.

It takes about 1 week for ZYBAN to reach the right levels in your body to be effective. So, to maximize your chance of quitting, you should not stop smoking until you have taken ZYBAN for 1 week.

Your target date to stop smoking should be during the second week of taking ZYBAN.

Take ZYBAN with or without food. If you have difficulty sleeping, take the second tablet earlier in the evening (but at least 8 hours after the first tablet).

Be sure to swallow ZYBAN tablets whole. Do not crush, cut or chew the tablets—doing so may increase the chance of side effects.

ZYBAN tablets may have a distinctive odour; this is normal.

ZYBAN is usually prescribed for 7-12 weeks.

You may need to take ZYBAN for a longer period of time to prevent you from returning to previous smoking behaviour. You and your doctor will determine how long you should take it according to your individual needs.

Can ZYBAN be used at the same time as nicotine patches?

Yes, ZYBAN and nicotine patches can be used at the same time but should only be used together under the supervision of your doctor. Using ZYBAN and nicotine patches together may raise your blood pressure, sometimes severely. Tell your doctor if you are planning to use nicotine replacement therapy so that your blood pressure can be checked regularly.

Can I smoke while taking ZYBAN?

It is not dangerous to smoke and take ZYBAN at the same time. But your chances of success in breaking your smoking habit are lowered if you smoke after the date you set to quit.

Overdose:

If you take too many tablets, you may increase the risk of a seizure, or other serious effects.

Missed dose:

If you miss a dose of ZYBAN, do NOT double the next dose. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time.

Remember: This medicine has been prescribed only for you. Do not give it to anybody else, as they may experience undesirable effects, which may be serious.

Lopressor SR (Metoprolol Tartrate) Dosage and Side Effects

Metoprolol is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication is also used to treat chest pain (angina) and to improve survival after a heart attack. Metoprolol belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in your body, such as epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. This effect lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart.

Warnings and Precautions

Warnings: Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when you suddenly stop this drug. Some people who have suddenly stopped taking similar drugs have had chest pain, heart attack, and irregular heartbeat. If your doctor decides you should no longer use this drug, he or she may direct you to gradually decrease your dose over 1 to 2 weeks. When gradually stopping this medication, it is recommended that you temporarily limit physical activity to decrease strain on the heart. Get medical help right away if you develop chest pain/tightness/pressure, chest pain spreading to the jaw/neck/arm, unusual sweating, trouble breathing, or fast/irregular heartbeat.Precautions: Before taking metoprolol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other beta-blockers (such as atenolol, propranolol); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: certain types of heart rhythm problems (such as a slow heartbeat, sick sinus syndrome, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block), breathing problems (such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema), liver disease, serious allergic reactions, including those needing treatment with epinephrine, blood circulation problems (such as Raynaud's disease, peripheral vascular disease), mental/mood disorders (such as depression), a certain muscle disease (myasthenia gravis). If you have diabetes, this product may prevent the fast/pounding heartbeat you would usually feel when your blood sugar level falls too low (hypoglycemia). Other symptoms of a low blood sugar level, such as dizziness and sweating, are unaffected by this drug. This product may also make it harder to control your blood sugar levels. Check your blood sugar levels regularly as directed by your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if you have symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst/urination. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. It may harm an unborn baby. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before breast-feeding.

Side Effects

Drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, diarrhea, and slow heartbeat may occur. Decreased sexual ability has been reported infrequently. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. This drug may reduce blood flow to your hands and feet, causing them to feel cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Dress warmly and avoid tobacco use. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: very slow heartbeat, severe dizziness, fainting, blue fingers/toes, trouble breathing, new or worsening symptoms of heart failure (such as swelling ankles/feet, severe tiredness, shortness of breath, unexplained/sudden weight gain), mental/mood changes (such as confusion, mood swings, depression). A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. In the US - Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. In Canada - Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to Health Canada at 1-866-234-2345.

Interactions with this medication

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval. A product that may interact with this drug is: fingolimod. Other medications can affect the removal of metoprolol from your body, which may affect how metoprolol works. Examples include lumefantrine, propafenone, quinidine, SSRI antidepressants (such as fluoxetine, paroxetine), St. John's wort, among others. Check the labels on all your medicines (such as cough-and-cold products, diet aids, or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen) because they may contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure/heart rate or worsen your heart failure. Ask your pharmacist for more details.

Proper Use of this medication

See also Warning section. Take this medication by mouth, with or right after a meal, as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice a day. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day. Do not suddenly stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Your condition may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this drug. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. To prevent chest pain, a second heart attack, or migraine headaches, it is very important to take this medication regularly as prescribed. This drug should not be used to treat chest pain or migraines when they occur. Use other medications to relieve sudden attacks as directed by your doctor (for example, nitroglycerin tablets placed under the tongue for chest pain, "triptan" drugs such as sumatriptan for migraines). Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens (for example, if your routine blood pressure readings remain high or increase if your chest pain or migraines occur more often).
