Maxalt-MLT (Rizatriptan) Medication Information

Uses

Maxalt-MLT is a serotonin receptor antagonist that is used to treat migraines with or without aura. 

Dosage

The tablets are available in several different strengths:

  • 5 mg
  • 10 mg

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Maxalt-MLT include:

  • Fatigue
  • Somnolence
  • Pain
  • Dizziness

Precautions

There is a risk of heart issues, including ischemia and arrhythmias while taking Maxalt-MLT, and if this occurs you should seek medical attention. 

There is a risk of cerebral hemorrhage with Maxalt-MLT use. 

In patients who over use Maxalt-MLT, there is a risk of overdose headache. 

Interactions

The most common drug interactions with Maxalt-MLT include:

  • Propranolol
  • Triptans
  • SSRIs
  • SNRIs
  • MAOIs

Storage

Store at room temperature (59-86 ºF).

  • Overusing Maxalt-MLT can lead to an overuse headache. 
  • If the migraine does not resolve, after two hours, another dose of Maxalt-MLT can be taken.
  • You should not take more than 30 mg in a 24 hour period.
