Pevaryl Cream (Econazole) Usage and Side Effects

ECOSTATIN topical (for the skin) is used to treat athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis). ECOSTATIN topical is also used to treat tinea versicolor (a fungus that discolors the skin), and yeast infections of the skin.

Proper Use of this medication

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Do not take by mouth. ECOSTATIN topical is for use only on the skin.

Wash your hands before and after applying this medicine. Clean and dry the affected area.

Apply only a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area. Spread the medicine onto the nearby skin about 1 inch on all sides of the affected areas. Avoid applying this medicine over large areas of skin.

To treat athlete's foot: Apply the medicine to the affected areas and nearby skin once per day for 1 month.

To treat jock itch, ringworm, or tinea versicolor: Apply the medicine to the affected areas and nearby skin once per day for 2 weeks.

To treat yeast infections of the skin: Apply the medicine to the affected areas and nearby skin twice per day for 2 weeks.

Do not cover the treated skin area unless your doctor tells you to. Bandaging can increase the amount of drug absorbed through your skin and may cause harmful effects.

Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using ECOSTATIN topical.

Do not share this medication with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line.

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have severe burning, redness, or stinging after applying the medicine.

Common side effects may include mild rash or skin irritation where the medicine was applied.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

Warnings and Precautions

You should not use ECOSTATIN topical if you are allergic to it.

To make sure ECOSTATIN topical is safe for you, tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven).

It is not known whether ECOSTATIN topical will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.

It is not known whether ECOSTATIN topical passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Do not use this medicine on a child without medical advice.

Interactions with this medication

Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes.

It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied ECOSTATIN. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Lithobid (Lithium Carbonate) Dosage and Side Effects

This medication is used to treat manic-depressive disorder (bipolar disorder). It works to stabilize the mood and reduce extremes in behavior by restoring the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

Some of the benefits of continued use of this medication include decreasing how often manic episodes occur and decreasing the symptoms of manic episodes such as exaggerated feelings of well-being, feelings that others wish to harm you, irritability, anxiousness, rapid/loud speech, and aggressive/hostile behaviors.

Proper Use of this medication

There are different brands of this medication available. They may not have the same effects. Do not change brands without asking your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually 2-3 times daily. Take lithium with or immediately after meals to lessen stomach upset. Do not crush or chew this medication. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects. Also, do not split the tablets unless they have a score line and your doctor or pharmacist tells you to do so. Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing.

Drink 8 to 12 glasses (8 ounces or 240 milliliters each) of water or other fluid each day, and eat a healthy diet with normal amounts of salt (sodium) as directed by your doctor or dietician while taking this medication. Large changes in the amount of salt in your diet may change your lithium blood levels. Do not change the amount of salt in your diet unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. The dosage is based on your medical condition, lithium blood levels, and response to treatment. This medication works best if the amount of the drug in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals.

This medication must be taken exactly as prescribed. It is important to continue taking lithium even if you feel well. Do not stop taking this drug without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. It may take 1 to 3 weeks to notice improvement in your condition.

Side Effects

Drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, increased thirst, increased frequency of urination, weight gain, and mildly shaking hands (fine tremor) may occur. These should go away as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: diarrhea, vomiting, fever, unsteady walk, confusion, slurred speech, blurred vision, severe hand trembling (coarse tremor), vision changes (such as growing blind spot, vision loss), joint swelling/pain, pain/discoloration of finger/toes, cold hands/feet.

Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: severe dizziness, fainting, slow/fast/irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, seizures.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Warnings and Precautions

Before taking lithium, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart disease, kidney disease, urinary problems (such as difficulty urinating), underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), seizures, Parkinson's disease, leukemia, severe dehydration (severe loss of body water), any infection with high fever, a certain skin disorder (psoriasis).

Lithium treatment may rarely reveal an existing condition that affects the heartrhythm (Brugada syndrome). Brugada syndrome is an inherited, life-threatening heart problem that some people may have without knowing it. It can cause a serious (possibly fatal) abnormal heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath) that need medical attention right away. Brugada syndrome may cause death suddenly. Before starting lithium treatment, tell your doctor if you have any of the following risk factors: Brugada syndrome, unexplained fainting, family history of certain heart problems (Brugada syndrome, sudden unexplained death before 45 years old).

This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy or cause blurred vision. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness or clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcoholic beverages.

If heavy sweating or severe diarrhea occurs, check with your doctor right away how to best continue taking lithium. Take care in hot weather or during activities that cause you to sweat heavily such as during hot baths, saunas, or exercise.

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby. However, since untreated mental/mood problems (such as bipolar disorder) can harm a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, do not stop taking this medication unless directed by your doctor. Instead, ask your doctor if a different medication would be right for you. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away.

Lithium passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Interactions with this medication

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval.

Other medications can affect the removal of lithium from your body, which may affect how lithium works. Examples include ACE inhibitors (such as captopril, enalapril), ARBs (such as losartan, valsartan), NSAIDs (such as celecoxib, ibuprofen), "water pills" (diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide), other drugs for mental/mood conditions (such as chlorpromazine, haloperidol, thiothixene), among others. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose of lithium if you are on these medications.

Eat a normal diet with an average amount of sodium. Consult your doctor or dietician for more details.

Proper Use of this medication

Usual dose:

Always take REVATIO exactly as your doctor has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. The recommended oral dose is 20 mg three times a day (taken 6 to 8 hours apart) swallowed with or without food. REVATIO solution for injection is for the continuous treatment of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension who are currently prescribed REVATIO tablets and who are temporarily unable to take oral medication.

For those patients, the recommended intravenous dose is 10 mg (corresponding to 12.5 mL) three times a day administered as an intravenous bolus injection administered by your doctor who will tell you when to resume to the tablets. Each dose requires a new vial.

If you have the impression that the effect of REVATIO is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

REVATIO is not indicated for use in children less than 18 years of age.

Overdose:

If you think you have taken too much REVATIO, contact your health care practitioner, hospital emergency department or regional Poison Control Centre immediately, even if there are no symptoms.

You should not take more tablets than your doctor tells you. If you take more tablets than you have been told to take contact your doctor.

Missed dose:

If you missed a dose of REVATIO, take it as soon as you remember, then continue with your next scheduled dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

Side Effects

These are not all the possible side effects you may feel when taking REVATIO. If you experience any side effects not listed here, contact your healthcare professional.

As with most drugs, REVATIO can cause some side effects.

The most common side effects are headache, facial flushing, indigestion, back pain, diarrhoea, nausea and pain in extremity.

Other side effects you might notice: flu-like symptoms, difficulty sleeping, muscle aches.

If any of these side effects is severe, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, or any of the above-mentioned effects persist or become bothersome, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Loss of Vision:

REVATIO belongs to a group of medicine called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. In rare cases men using such medicines for erectile dysfunction have reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes. If you experience sudden decrease or loss of vision, you should stop taking REVATIO and call your doctor immediately for advice.

Duoneb (Ipratropium Bromide/Albuterol Sulfate) Dosage and Side Effects

DUONEB is a combination bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs. DUONEB inhalation is used to prevent bronchospasm in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who are also using other medicines to control their condition.

Proper Use of this medication

Follow the directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Overuse of this medicine may increase the risk of death. It is critical that you use only the prescribed dose of this medicine.

This medication comes with patient instructions for safe and effective use, and directions for priming the inhaler device. Duoneb and Combivent Respimat have different patient instructions. Follow these directions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

To use the inhaler (Combivent Respimat):

  • You do not need to shake Combivent Respimat before use.
  • Uncap the mouthpiece of the inhaler. Breathe out fully. Put the mouthpiece into your mouth and close your lips. Keep your eyes closed to prevent spraying any medicine into your eyes. Breathe in slowly while pushing down on the canister. Hold your breath for 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly.
  • If you use more than one inhalation at a time, wait at least 2 minutes before using the second inhalation.
  • Carefully follow all directions for cleaning your specific inhaler device once per week.

To use the solution with a nebulizer (Duoneb):

  • Open the foil pouch and remove one vial. Squeeze all of the medicine out into the chamber of the nebulizer.
  • Attach the mouthpiece or face mask to the drug chamber. Then, attach the drug chamber to the compressor. Sit upright in a comfortable position. Place the mouthpiece into your mouth or put the face mask on, covering your nose and mouth.
  • Breathe in slowly and evenly until you have inhaled all of the medicine (usually 5 to 15 minutes). The treatment is complete when no more mist is formed by the nebulizer and the drug chamber is empty.
  • Clean the nebulizer after each use. Follow the cleaning directions that came with your nebulizer.

Keep track of the number of sprays you have used. Throw away the Combivent Respimat inhaler canister after 3 months or 120 sprays, whichever comes first.

Seek medical attention if you think this medication is not working as well as usual.

While using DUONEB, you may need frequent blood tests at your doctor's office.

Use DUONEB regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely.

Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep each Duoneb vial in its foil pouch until you are ready to use it. Do not store Combivent Respimat in your car on hot days. Extreme heat can cause the medicine canister to burst. Do not throw an empty canister into open flame.

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line. An overdose of DUONEB can be fatal. Overdose symptoms may include chest pain, fast or pounding heartbeats, extreme thirst, muscle weakness or limp feeling, severe headache, buzzing in your ears, weak pulse, fainting, or slow breathing (breathing may stop).

Stop using DUONEB inhalation and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • wheezing, choking, or other breathing problems (especially after starting a new canister of this medicine);
  • chest pain, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;
  • dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, anxiety, uneven heartbeats);
  • swelling of your ankles or feet;
  • eye pain, or seeing halos around lights;
  • painful or difficult urination; or
  • low potassium (confusion, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling).

Common side effects may include:

  • mild headache; or
  • cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, cough, or sore throat.

Warnings and Precautions

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to albuterol (Proventil, Ventolin), ipratropium (Atrovent), or atropine (Atreza, Lomotil, Vi-Atro, Sal-Tropine).

Seek medical attention if you think this medication is not working as well as usual.

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to albuterol (Proventil, Ventolin), ipratropium (Atrovent), or atropine (Atreza, Lomotil, Vi-Atro, Sal-Tropine).

To make sure DUONEB inhalation is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

  • heart disease, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, or heart rhythm disorder;
  • a seizure disorder such as epilepsy;
  • diabetes;
  • overactive thyroid;
  • glaucoma;
  • liver or kidney disease; or
  • enlarged prostate, problems with urination.

It is not known whether this medication is harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

It is not known whether DUONEB passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are using this medication.

Interactions with this medication

If this medication gets in your eyes, rinse with water and seek medical attention.

This medication may cause blurred vision and may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly.

Tell your doctor about all medications you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with DUONEB, especially:

  • heart or blood pressure medication--penbutolol, pindolol, propranolol, sotalol, timolol, and others.

This list is not complete. Other drugs may interact with DUONEB, including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Not all possible interactions are listed in this medication guide.

Methotrexate is used to treat certain types of cancer or to control severe psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis that has not responded to other treatments. It may also be used to control juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Methotrexate belongs to a class of drugs known as antimetabolites. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells and suppressing the immune system.

Proper Use of this medication

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking methotrexate and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Methotrexate is a strong medication. The dosage and how often you take this medication are based on your medical condition and response to treatment. There are many different dosing schedules for this medication (especially for cancer treatment). Therefore, it is very important that you follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor.

For the treatment of psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, take this medication by mouthas directed by your doctor, usually once a week. It may take up to several months before you get the full benefit of this drug.

Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects will increase.

Since this drug can be absorbed through the skin and lungs and may harm an unborn baby, women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant should not handle this medication or breathe the dust from the tablets.

Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Doing so helps your kidneys to remove the drug from your body and avoid some of the side effects.

Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Temporary hair loss may occur. Normal hair growth should return after treatment has ended.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: mouthsores, diarrhea, signs of anemia (such as unusual tiredness, pale skin), signs of liverproblems (such as dark urine, persistent nausea/vomiting, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin), easy bruising/bleeding, black stools, enlarged glands/lymph nodes, bone pain, unusual pain and discoloration of the skin, signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), dry cough, muscle weakness.

Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: weakness on one side of the body, neck stiffness, severe headache, vision changes, irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, seizures.

This medication may lower your ability to fight infections. This may make you more likely to get a serious (rarely fatal) infection or make any infection you have worse. Tell your doctor right away if you have any signs of infection (such as fever, chills, persistent sore throat, cough).

This medication can affect sperm production, an effect that may lower male fertility. Consult your doctor for more details.

Avoid contact with people who have infections that may spread to others (such as chickenpox, measles, flu). Consult your doctor if you have been exposed to an infection or for more details.

Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without the consent of your doctor. Avoid contact with people who have recently received live vaccines (such as flu vaccineinhaled through the nose).

To lower the chance of getting cut, bruised, or injured, use caution with sharp objects like razors and nail cutters, and avoid activities such as contact sports.

This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Avoid alcoholic beverages.

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skinblisters/redness.

Methotrexate must not be used during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby. It is important to prevent pregnancy during and after treatment with methotrexate. Therefore, males and females must use reliable forms of birth control (such as condoms, birth control pills) during treatment. Males should continue to use birth control for at least 3 months after the end of treatment. Females should continue to use birth control for at least 1 menstrual cycle after the end of treatment. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away.
