Depending upon the condition the dosage prescribed will vary. The doctor will determine the amount to be taken and their recommendation must be followed.
When treating hypertension, you will normally start by taking 10 mg twice each day. Sometimes it will be taken alone and other times alongside a diuretic. The doctor will judge your heart rate and decide whether or not to change the dosage. Once stable, it is likely that you will receive between 20 mg and 40 mg a day. If it is considered necessary, then 60 mg a day will be prescribed and this is likely to be over 2 doses. When dosage is changed, it should not be altered again for at least 7 days.
Migraine sufferers will be started with 10 mg twice each day and this will move up to 20 mg once a day once stabilized. The highest dosage that is recommended is 30 mg a day. It should not be taken for more than 6 or 8 weeks.
As with all medication, there is the risk of side effects and some could be more serious than others. Your doctor needs to be informed right away if you suffer from any of the following:
- Chest pain
- Dizziness and the feeling you may faint
- Slow heartbeat
- Difficulty breathing
- Feeling more tired than normal
There are certain times when you should not take Blocadren and you need to tell your doctor if you have used it before and had a bad reaction. You should also check the other ingredients to see if you are allergic to them. Certain medical conditions could prevent you from taking it and your health care provider needs to know if you suffer from any of the following:
- Heart rhythm problems
- Heart failure
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
