Prempro is manufactured by Pfizer Inc. and marketed under the name Premique in the United Kingdom. We carry the following dosage: 0.3mg/1.5mg in a pack size of 84 tablets.

There are two active ingredients in Prempro: conjugated estrogen and medroxyprogesterone acetate.

What is Prempro used for?

Prempro is prescribed for women suffering from menopause related symptoms. As long they have their uterus still, Prempro medication is going to work. It contains progestin and estrogen hormones, which are naturally produced by the female body. Appearing in the form of a tablet, Prempro or conjugated estrogens/medroxyprogesterone acetate is taken just once per day.

It is used to treat serious hot flashes caused by menopause. Additionally, Prempro is indicated for moderate to severe burning, itching, or dryness inside the vagina or around it. Finally, it is used to prevent bone loss or osteoporosis in menopausal women. If you haven’t had a hysterectomy, this medicine can help you.

 Here is how it works. When undergoing menopause and afterwards, the female body stops  producing high levels of estrogen and the levels that are produced tend to be imbalanced. Additionally, the body starts producing a type of estrogen called androstenedione instead of estradiol(produced during a woman’s reproductive age). Androstenedione is released by adrenal glands rather than ovaries and then turned into estrone estrogen. When there is a low level of estradiol and a high level of estrone, menopausal symptoms result.

As Prempro contains equine estrogens, totally natural, plus a progestin hormone called medroxyprogesterone, it can easily relieve symptoms of menopause. It will provide the estradiol estrogen that the ovaries stop producing. This type of estrogen will strengthen bones and prevent osteoporosis. It has a lower risk of uterine cancer because of the medroxyprogesterone.

How is the dosage best taken?

If taking Prempro, it will be necessary to take it correctly to benefit from it. Prempro is in a tablet form and taken once per day. It is fine to take it with or without a meal. If after taking it for the first time you experience stomach upset, it will be best to take it with food henceforth. Taking Prempro at any time of day is fine, but it is good to have a strict schedule to maintain even levels of the drug in your blood.

Depending on how you respond to Prempro,and how severe your menopausal symptoms are, your doctor might adjust your dosage. Prempro has different strengths and dosages; your doctor will select the right ones for you.

What are the common side effect of Prempro?

This medicine is known to cause side effects and it is not all people who can experience them. In any case, most people tolerate it well and the few who have side effects only suffer from mild ones. The most common side effects include:
