Lidex Gel (Fluocinonide) Medication Information

Uses

Lidex is a topical corticosteroid that is used to treat atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and other inflammatory skin conditions. 

Dosage

The gel is available in 0.05% concentration.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Lidex include:

  • Localized burning
  • Acne
  • Allergic dermatitis
  • Pruritus
  • Hyperglycemia
  • Growth suppression
  • Secondary infection
  • Irritation

Precautions

With all corticosteroids, there is a risk of adrenal suppression. Patients who receive high doses for a long period of time are at the most risk. 

Skin reactions can occur with this medication, monitor for any irritation or rash and alert your doctor if you notice any changes. 

There is a risk of Kaposi sarcoma with prolonged steroid treatment. If Kaposi develops the steroid should be stopped. 

Interactions

Aldesleukin can be affected by Lidex co-administration. This is the only reported drug interaction with Lidex.  

Speak with your doctor for more information and before starting a new medication with Lidex. 

Storage

Store at room temperature (59-86ºF).

  • Lidex therapy should be limited to 2 weeks. 
  • Lidex should be applied once or twice a day to the affected area. 
  • When applying Lidex, use a sparingly thin layer. Be sure to wash your hands following application of Lidex.
