What is Durezol used for?

Durezol or difluprednate ophthalmic emulsion is a corticosteroid. This medication works to block substances that cause inflammation in the body. This emulsion is used to treat the eyes, especially, if they are painful and irritated by surgery.

Additionally, Durezol is prescribed for the treatment of anterior uveitis inflammation. This infection affects the front area of the eye. Durezol is not for curing people who already have untreated eye infections caused by herpes or another virus. It cannot treat active glaucoma too. For these infections and conditions, you should seek alternative medical help.

How to use Difluprednate eye drops?

If you are taking Durezol to treat postoperative ocular inflammation, then you need to place just one drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye. Apply the dose four times per day starting a day after undergoing surgery.

Continue usage for the next two weeks. Then, reduce the dose to twice a day for an entire week. From there, your doctor will recommend the best reduced dose. There are typical instructions of therapy; though your doctor may have more specific directions.

As an adult looking to treat endogenous anterior uveitis with Durezol, you need to place one drop four times per day for two weeks. After that, reduce your dose as advised by your doctor.

There are points you should note if your doctor has prescribed this eye drop. First, use it according to your doctor’s instructions or what is written on the label. If you are given two bottles, one for either eye, don’t mix up the two. Use the right bottle for each eye to avoid passing on an infection.

What are the common side effects of Durezol?

The common side effects are:

  • Itchy eyes
  • Watery eyes
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision
  • Eyes become sensitive to light
  • Feeling as if there is an object in your eye.

These are normal and hardly require the attention of your doctor.

Are there precautions of using Difluprednate Eye Drops?

If you are about to start using Durezol, it is advisable to take the following precautions.

  • Don’t use these eye drops if you have active glaucoma, herpes or another eye problem
  • Avoid contaminating your dropper tip as it could cause an eye infection
  • Avoid use when wearing contact lenses. Remove them first, apply the dose and wait ten minutes to wear them.
  • Don’t stop using Durezol even if your symptoms have not gone after two days. Talk to your doctor first.
  • Don’t drive or perform a dangerous activity as the medicine can cause blurred vision.
  • Tell your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Prior to applying these eye drops, wash your hands well, tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid and place a drop in the sac. Close your eye for one to two minutes while facing the floor. Press the inside corner of your eye to prevent the drop from flowing into the tear duct.
