Uses
Risperdal is an atypical antipsychotic that is used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability caused by autism.
Dosage
The tablets are available in several different strengths:
- 0.25 mg
- 0.5 mg
- 1 mg
- 2 mg
- 3 mg
- 4 mg
Side Effects
The most common side effects of Risperdal include:
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Tremor
- Constipation
- Parkinsonism
- Akathisia
- Somnolence
- Agitation

Precautions
Risperdal can cause movement disorders that in some cases are not reversible. If you notice movements that are unvoluntary report them to your doctor right away.
Risperdal, like other antipsychotics can cause an increase in blood sugar, which can lead to diabetes, or worsening of glucose control in those who have diabetes.
In elderly patients with dementia, Risperdal can cause cardiovascular events which can lead to death.

The most common drug interaction with Risperdal are included:
- Alcohol
- Levodopa/carbidopa
- Cimetidine
- Clozapine
- Fluoxetine
- Paroxetine
- Carbamazepine

Storage
Store at room temperature (59-77ºF). Risperdal should be protected from light.
