Uses
Aggrenox is a combination antiplatelet agent indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients who have had transient ischemia of the brain or completed ischemic stroke due to thrombosis
Dosage
There are oral tablets available in several different strengths:
- 25/200 mg

The most common side effects of Aggrenox include:
- Headache
- Dyspepsia
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Diarrhea

Precautions
Aggrenox increases the risk of bleeding. Risk factors for bleeding include the use of other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding (e.g., anticoagulations, antiplatelet agents, heparin, fibrinolytic therapy, and chronic use of NSAIDs).
GI side effects include stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and gross GI bleeding. Although minor upper GI symptoms, such as dyspepsia, are common and can occur anytime during therapy, physicians should remain alert for signs of ulceration and bleeding, even in the absence of previous GI symptoms.

Pharmacist Tips
- Because Aggrenox contains aspirin, if you consume three or more alcoholic drinks every day about the bleeding risks involved with chronic, heavy alcohol use while taking aspirin.
- Some patients may experience headaches upon treatment initiation; these are usually transient. In case of intolerable headaches, contact your physician
- Capsules should be swallowed whole
- If you miss a dose continue with your next scheduled dose, do not take a double dose.

Aggrenox can be taken with or without food.
Can I take this if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Aggrenox can harm your unborn baby, especially if you take it in the last (third) trimester of pregnancy. You should not take Aggrenox during pregnancy without first talking to your healthcare provider. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you become pregnant while taking Aggrenox.
Aggrenox can pass into your milk and may harm your baby. Talk to your healthcare provider about the best way to feed your baby if you take Aggrenox.
