Pevaryl (Econazole)
Pevaryl Cream (Econazole) Usage and Side Effects
ECOSTATIN topical (for the skin) is used to treat athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis). ECOSTATIN topical is also used to treat tinea versicolor (a fungus that discolors the skin), and yeast infections of the skin.
Proper Use of this medication
Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Do not take by mouth. ECOSTATIN topical is for use only on the skin.
Wash your hands before and after applying this medicine. Clean and dry the affected area.
Apply only a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area. Spread the medicine onto the nearby skin about 1 inch on all sides of the affected areas. Avoid applying this medicine over large areas of skin.
To treat athlete's foot: Apply the medicine to the affected areas and nearby skin once per day for 1 month.
To treat jock itch, ringworm, or tinea versicolor: Apply the medicine to the affected areas and nearby skin once per day for 2 weeks.
To treat yeast infections of the skin: Apply the medicine to the affected areas and nearby skin twice per day for 2 weeks.
Do not cover the treated skin area unless your doctor tells you to. Bandaging can increase the amount of drug absorbed through your skin and may cause harmful effects.
Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while using ECOSTATIN topical.
Do not share this medication with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line.
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have severe burning, redness, or stinging after applying the medicine.
Common side effects may include mild rash or skin irritation where the medicine was applied.

Warnings and Precautions
You should not use ECOSTATIN topical if you are allergic to it.
To make sure ECOSTATIN topical is safe for you, tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven).
It is not known whether ECOSTATIN topical will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
It is not known whether ECOSTATIN topical passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Do not use this medicine on a child without medical advice.
Interactions with this medication
Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes.
It is not likely that other drugs you take orally or inject will have an effect on topically applied ECOSTATIN. But many drugs can interact with each other. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
