Movantik (Naloxegol) Medication Information

Uses

Movantik is an opioid antagonist that is used to treat opioid induced constipation. 

Dosage

The tablets are available in several strengths:

• 12.5 mg
• 25 mg

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Movantik include:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Stomach pain
• Flatulence
• Vomiting
• Headache

Precautions

Movantik can cause gastrointestinal perforation, patients with severe, worsening, or constant stomach pain should be monitored, and Movantik should be discontinued.

There is a possibility of opioid withdrawal while using this medication, patients should be monitored for withdrawal symptoms.

The most common drug interactions with Movantik include:

• Diltiazem
• Verapamil
• Clarithromycin
• Rifampin
• Phenytoin
• Carbamazepine
• Other opioid antagonist

Storage

Store at room temperature (68-77ºF).
