The right pediatric dose for bacterial conjunctivitis is the same as the dosage for adults. However, the medicine should not be given to kids who are less than one year old.
The medication is able to stop bacterial conjunctivitis due to C striatum, C pseudodiphtheriticum, A viridans, S aureus, S hominis, warneri, S mitis group, S oralis and CDC coryneform group G among others.
To make sure that this medication works for you, use it exactly the way your doctor prescribes it. Remove your contact lenses first to make sure they don’t become permanently damaged by a preservative in Besivance medicine. Insert them again at least fifteen minutes after applying your medicine.
Wash your hands before use to reduce chances of contamination. To apply do this:
- Invert your bottle and shake it a bit
- Tilt our head backward slightly and pull down your lower eyelid
- Hold the dropper tip right above your eye
- Look up and away from the tip and squeeze out a drop into the small socket
- Close your eye and press your finger to the inner corner of your eye. Do it gently for one minute so the medicine can flow into the tear duct.
Stop using this medication when your doctor asks you to. Also, be careful not to skip your doses to limit further eye infection.
Are you allergic to besifloxacin? If so, you are much more likely to have some side effects. However, severe side effects are not so common and when they occur, they include severe eye irritation, redness, crusting and swelling.
You might also feel as if there is an object inside your eye and might have fever. There might also be signs of an allergic effect such as swelling of the tongue and throat and hives.
If you notice these, call your doctor right away. It is okay to have eye redness. Most people taking Besivance will notice this side effect and endure it just fine. Keep using your Besivance medication for as long as seven days.
If your doctor has examined your eyes and wants to put you on Besivance, let them learn the following about you.
- Your pregnancy or if you are looking to conceive a baby during treatment
- That you are breastfeeding. No one knows if besifloxacin can be absorbed into breast milk and harm a nursing baby. So let your doctor know if you’re a breastfeeding mother
- That you have besifloxacin allergy
- If you wear contact lenses, you might want to get a Besivance substitute
